Inspired by food markets from all over the world and the experience and interactions that such events allow for, Breathing Intersections is a project that aims to disrupt the strictness of the city of Chicago.
The site for this intervention is in South Michigan and East Congress Parkway, which is a site that has a lot of vehicle circulation, however, not a lot of pedestrian circulation.
Creating breathable structures that inflate as they react to sensors from around the site allows for interactions between people to take place when otherwise they wouldn’t. The structures allow for people to connect with each other but also to connect the site.
The breathing structures also contain projections that can be a platform for artists or organizations to showcase their work.
